The Story of Reiki
The Essence of Reiki
Reiki is the name given to a simple yet profound system of
natural healing for body and
mind. It was developed by
Dr.Mikao Usui who lived in
Japan during the nineteenth
century. REI means "universal"
and Ki means "Life Force Energy"
Life Force Energy is the
FOUNDATION
of all life that nourishes,
and sustains the cycle of birth ,
life , and death of all living things.
When we are in touch with this
energy through prayer,meditation,
or Reiki , we experience a sense
of unity , we become more aware
of our place or role in the great
scheme of things and at the same
time we feel supported , safe ,
open, and confident in our ability
to be all that we are , without
doubt or apology.
We can say that these spiritual
or personal experiences are the
Essence of Reiki.
There are two main types of
Life Force Energy : Internal and
External . Internal Life Force
Energy is the subtle energy that
exists within the body and mind
of all living beings. External
Life Force Energy exists within
plants , flowers , trees , rocks ,
minerals , and crystals , and
this energy is often harnessed
for healing purposes as in the
Bach flower remedies , crystal
healing , homeopathic , and
herbal remedies.
There are many levels of
Internal and External Life Force
Energy in the universe.
On one level Reiki can be seen
as the purest form of External
Life Force Energy and it can
have a profound effect on our
health and well-being by
rebalancing , cleansing , and
renewing our Internal Energy
System.
When Reiki comes into contact
with Internal Life Force Energy
that is blocked , or imbalanced,
it naturally and effortlessly
dissolves , transmutes , and
raises the quality of that energy
to the healthiest level that our
body , mind , and environment
will allow.

part of the teaching practice of
many Reiki Masters . Most Western
Reiki Masters trace their lineage
back to Hawayo Takata . She is
recognized as the Third Reiki
Grand Master , the one who
brought Reiki out of Japan.
Not so long ago there lived a
man who had a burning question :
" How did Jesus heal ?"
Could those people who were
following a similar path of spiritual
development as Jesus also heal
as he had done?
Was it true what Jesus had said :
" All these things that I have done
you can do , and yet greater
things." The story of this quest
has been past from master to
student in its original form since
Reiki was first taught.
Dr. Mikao Usui was born in 1864

Christian missionaries . While most
Japanese children were brought
up under traditional Shinto and
Buddhism religions.
Mikao Usui studied the Bible and the stories and teachings of Jesus.
After leaving school he became
a professor of theology and was
appointed the head and minister
of Christian Boys ' School.
One morning , while conducting
a chapel service , he was
questioned by several of the
senior boys on his beliefs.
They asked him to demonstrate
his faith by performing a miracle.!
He was speechless . !
Deeply affected ,he decided to
resign and dedicate the rest of
his life to deepening his faith and
discovering how such healing
miracles could be performed.
